What it is for

Psiphon was built for people in countries where governments or providers block news sites, messengers or social networks. The app connects to the Psiphon network and routes your traffic through it, so a blocked service becomes reachable again. It combines several connection methods and switches between them when one stops working, which is why it often keeps working where a regular VPN is blocked. The goal is access, not anonymity: Psiphon helps you reach content, but it is not a tool for hiding your identity from the sites you visit. That distinction matters when you choose between Psiphon and privacy-focused services. For travellers, journalists and anyone living with restrictions, it is a practical way to stay connected without technical setup.

How to set it up

1. Open the official download page and choose Google Play or the direct download offered there.
2. Install the app and open it; it starts connecting on its own.
3. Allow the VPN connection request that Android shows.
4. When the status shows connected, open your browser or app as usual.

Requirements

Psiphon Pro needs an Android device with internet access. There is no published requirements list in our data; the Google Play page shows whether your device is compatible.

Is it safe?

Only the copy from Psiphon's own site or Google Play is safe to use. Because Psiphon is popular where the internet is filtered, fake versions appear on APK sites and in messaging channels, and a modified VPN app can see all your traffic. Check that the developer is Psiphon Inc. before installing.

Price

The basic service is free. Psiphon offers paid options inside the app for users who want more speed or no ads.

Tips

If the app fails to connect, switch between mobile data and Wi-Fi and try again; the app will try other methods automatically. Keep it updated, because new versions often restore access after blocking methods change.

Psiphon or a regular VPN?

A commercial VPN is designed to hide your address and encrypt traffic on public Wi-Fi; Psiphon is designed to get through blocks. If your only problem is a blocked site or messenger, Psiphon is often the simpler choice. If you need privacy on untrusted networks, look at a VPN from a provider you trust, and keep Psiphon as a backup for days when that VPN is blocked too.

Pros and cons

• Pro: works where many VPNs are blocked.
• Pro: no setup needed.
• Pro: free basic service.
